It defines how artificial intelligence will be used in the company, what value it should deliver, and how risks will be managed. Without these components, AI is often uncoordinated and difficult to scale.

A central component is a strategic vision. It describes how AI should contribute to business development – for example, through efficiency gains, better decisions, or new services. Building on this, prioritized application areas are defined, which usually result from an AI potential analysis. A clear focus on use cases with the highest benefit and realistic feasibility is crucial here.

Another core building block is governance. It regulates responsibilities, decision-making processes, and standards for AI deployment. This includes, among other things, guidelines for data protection, information security, model quality, transparency, and ethical principles. Especially with a growing number of AI applications, governance ensures that risks remain manageable and trust is built.

Additionally, an AI strategy includes an implementation roadmap that describes how prioritized initiatives will be realized step-by-step – including dependencies, milestones, and success criteria. Competencies and organization are equally relevant: Which roles are needed? Which skills need to be developed? And how will employees be involved? Close integration with tailored training & further education as well as change management is crucial here.

A robust AI strategy is built on a realistic assessment of the initial situation, as created, for example, by the AI-Readiness Quick Check. Only on this basis can the individual components be meaningfully combined and permanently anchored within the company.

An AI strategy consists of clear goals, prioritized application areas, robust governance, and an implementation roadmap.
